SummerFlash | Popsicle playdates for rising kindergartners

The NewsFlash is on vacation, but PTA will send occasional updates and reminders over the summer to keep you connected. If you’re new to Joyner and the NewsFlash, be sure to check out the quick links at the bottom of this message, including the “Joyner glossary of terms” to get up-to-speed on all the JYJ lingo. If you just graduated your last child and you’re done with the NewsFlash, know that we’ll miss you, but feel free to unsubscribe and leave the Joyner hub.

Hello! My name is Carson Smith and I’m excited to be involved in the JYJ PTA as Communications Chair for the 2018-19 school year. You will be receiving the weekly NewsFlash from me each Wednesday. I am mom to Evan Mather, a rising 3rd grader, and we’ve had a great experience at Joyner. I look forward to getting to know more of the JYJ community this year!

Popsicle playdates for rising kindergartners

Popsicle Playdates
All rising kindergarten families are invited to enjoy popsicles on the playground on Wednesday, Aug. 8th, at  9 a.m. on the main playground behind the school. Please RSVP to lkball@hotmail.com so we can be sure to have enough popsicles! Feel free to forward this message to any rising K families that you know. This is a great way to help your child get familiar with Joyner and make some new friends before school starts. A second playdate will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18th, at 3 p.m.

Library meet up on Monday, August 13

How is your child’s Summer Reading Challenge going? Come check out some books and visit with the JYJ crew at the Cameron Village Library for the last meet up of the summer on Monday, August 13 at 5:30 p.m. Click here to download Summer Reading Challenge details and the form for logging book titles.

Girls on the Run (GOTR)

Joyner is hoping to host a Girls on the Run (GOTR) team in the Fall. We must secure two more female volunteer coaches to be able to run the program. Coaches participate in a one day training this summer and running experience is NOT required. Moms, teachers, big sisters, aunts, baby sitters, family friends are all welcome to apply! GOTR is a wonderful leadership, fitness and character development program for rising 3rd – 5th grade girls. Practices would be Tuesday and Thursday outside of Joyner for 90 minutes right after school from Sept 25 – December 3rd. Please help spread the word (social media) that WE NEED COACHES!

Please contact Shanna L Schroeder,  shannas@us.ibm.com  if you have any questions or if you are interested in coaching. Thank you!
