Healthy Choice Spirit Week This Week!04/28 Wednesday (Asynchronous Day), “Wellness Wednesday”. Do something that you enjoy – go for a walk, bike ride, read a book, draw, listen to music. Bonus: read a book that celebrates someone who represents or encourages healthy living (a farmer, doctor, athlete, etc) 04/29 Thursday: “Athletic Thursday”. Come ready to play! Wear the gear or uniform for your favorite way to get active (soccer uniform, yoga gear, dance warm ups, bball or football jersey or even represent your favorite team).
04/30 Friday: “Fun Friday, JYJ gear / blue and gold day”. Show your school spirit by wearing blue, gold, or Joyner gear!
Joyner Virtual 5K Run/Walk this Saturday, May 1st
Our annual JYJ 5K is back on Saturday, May 1st!
The 5K helps to fund the numerous PTA programs throughout the year that benefit every child. If this past year has shown us anything, it’s that we have the best teachers and staff anyone could ask for!
You can show your support by registering for the 5K for your child or family members as usual. There is also a link that allows any other amount of donation.
We hope that you will join us this Saturday, May 1st by participating in the 5K by choosing running, walking, biking, or anything! This event will look different for every family.
Please practice social distancing with whatever healthy practice you choose!

Teacher Appreciation Week (May 3-7)
Let’s show our teachers and staff some love! May 3-7 is Teacher Appreciation Week. Be creative and have some fun spoiling our amazing teachers. Please don’t forget our specialists, office, and support staff.
Mailbox Monday- Write a special note to your teacher letting them know how much you appreciate them! Bring it to school on Monday!
Sweet Treat Tuesday- Bring your teacher their favorite sweet treat, snack, or fruit.
Cinco de Mayo Wednesday– The PTA will provide the staff with a yummy Mexican lunch.
Thirsty Thursday- The PTA will fill the staff with a personalized JYJ cup filled with treats. If you’re feeling extra generous, you could give your teacher a gift card to their favorite coffee shop or restaurant.
Floral Friday- Bring your teacher a plant, hand-picked flowers, or something with a floral pattern.
Summer Camp OfferingsWe’re excited to share that the following summer camps are available for registration.
- Kinder Readiness: July 12-July 16
- Fourth Grade Refresher: July 19-23 and 26 -30
- First Grade Refresher: Aug 2-6
These will be led by Ms. Kate Johnson (4th Grade Teacher). Contact Ms. Johnston directly for questions and registration details. Email: (contact info in email) *Space is limited to 10 students per camp.
Health Screening Update
In accordance with CDC and DCDHHS guidance, WCPSS schools are no longer screening students for symptoms of Covid-19 upon arrival. However, we still need your assistance in ensuring students do not come to campus with symptoms.
Students should not be in school if they are diagnosed with COVID-19, exposed to someone with COVID-19, instructed to quarantine, or if they are sick or experiencing any of these symptoms:
- 100.4° fever or higher
- Sore throat
- New cough
- New shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- New loss of taste or smell
- Diarrhea or vomiting
- New severe headache
Care Center
If your child goes to the Care Center, you will receive this form when you pick your child up. Please be sure to review the “Return to School” section which outlines what needs to be done for a student to return to Joyner.
